This week’s meeting was led by Bob Hill. On the agenda was the educational uses of Google Sketchup, the best ways to practice what you preach when presenting on ‘collaboration’, and the concept of ‘Open Source Textbooks’. The latter, Stuart Meldrum has been keen to point out, is not a wiki textbook, but a collaboratively-authored hard-copy effort!

This week’s meeting was led by Doug Belshaw and focused on two main areas. As a number of us and the wider community are involved in the Open Source Schools project, we discussed the role of Open Source Software in schools and our favourite examples. The only other agenda item was raised by Dave Stacey who asked how we circulated ‘good practice’ regarding educational technology within our schools. Both topics generated some quality discussion.

There were a good number of regulars missing from this week’s FlashMeeting – all for good reasons – but it was great to welcome some new faces. We began with a quick plug for David Noble’s Edonis project, which forms part of his Ed.D. research. We then discussed Doug, José & Ian’s involvement in an upcoming Becta-funded Open Source Schools project and issues surrounding that. After this, we moved on to an update on Internet Safety materials, prompted by Louise Jones, and finally we got to the wonder of iPhones and educational uses for the plethora of applications available for it.
